Inspirations

“A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.” ― John A. Shedd

Prep for Session

  • Read this Op-Ed from the New York Times. Capture two different quotes that you would be interested in talking about. Extra fun: click hear to listen to the beautiful song referenced in the article.
  • See this interesting paper from an education-focused design group. It’s extensive so you can just read the intro and pick one tension that interests you most to read in full.
  • Check out these design mindsets. Take a moment to reflect on the mindsets on slide three. Don’t worry about the number of mindsets! We’ll review them together.
  • We will be utilizing MIRO, which is an online collaborative white board. We will provide an alternative option for anyone who would prefer not to use the platform but it would be helpful if everyone has a chance to play around in MIRO before session two. Please find a time to access this MIRO board and participate in the asynchronous icebreaker activity. You do not need your own a MIRO account; rather, you can simply follow the link and use the board as a guest.  If you would like a tutorial, this youtube tutorial does a good job of covering basics. If you would prefer to not use MIRO, please bring paper, sticky notes and sharpies to session 2.
